Money moves fast. Explaining it is slow.

A payment across a border is not an event, it is a chain. The card network knows the authorisation. The correspondent bank knows the value date. The ledger knows a number that matches neither. And at month end somebody sits down and assembles a story out of three statements that disagree.

Switzerland sharpens this. A franc invoice paid in euros crosses a monetary boundary on every single transaction. SIC and SEPA are two worlds running on two clocks. Somewhere between them a difference appears that nobody named, and it resurfaces as a rounding line.

Newton Pay is built around a single idea: the record is the product. Moving the money is a solved problem, that is what networks, banks and ramps are for. What is missing is the line that says why this transfer looks the way it does. Checkout, screening, route, entry, notice: five steps, and the reason for each one is written down while it happens.

This is not only an engineering position. A supervisor asks the merchant question in different words: where did the money come from, where did it go, and who decided? A system that can answer that for its own operators can answer it in an examination. One that cannot will eventually pay for it twice.
